UAE’s Kitopi reveals solar-powered kitchen in Dubai

The multi-brand restaurant chain Kitopi partners with Yellow Door Energy to build a 838 megawatt-hours per year solar-powered

Kitopi

Next time when you savour your favourite delicacy from Kitopi, you can thank the Sun, besides, of course, the chef at the tech-powered multi-brand restaurant chain.

In a first in the cloud kitchen industry, Kitopi has struck a deal with Yellow Door Energy to develop a solar-powered multi-brand central kitchen and warehouse facility in Dubai.

The solar-powered kitchen, located in the city’s National Industries Park, will have a capacity of 523 kilowatt-peak (kWp) to produce 838 megawatt-hours (MWh) of clean energy in its first year of operation.

The new facility, which is estimated to reduce carbon emissions by 590 metric tons annually, will help the multi-brand kitchen chain to save over one-third of its electricity cost from the first month itself, boosting its operational efficiency further, besides becoming a champion in sustainable development.

Satisfying world’s appetite in a sustainable way

“Our purpose is to satisfy the world’s appetite to create joy, and we’re working hard on doing that sustainably,” Dario Wolfsen, Senior Director of Property at Kitopi, told Arabian Business.

He said through the solar partnership with Yellow Door Energy, the restaurant chain will switch to clean electricity to produce thousands of meals per day.

“This is just one of the many steps Kitopi is taking to innovate on the sustainability front in the F&B space.”

Wolfsen said the new initiative, in line with UAE’s 2050 energy strategy to commit to Net Zero emission by 2050, will also create a balance between production and consumption, meeting the global environmental obligations towards clean energy contribution.

David Provenzani, Country Director for the UAE and Oman at Yellow Door Energy, said businesses in Dubai can save between 30 and 50 percent off their electricity tariff when they switch to a solar lease with Yellow Door Energy.

“The saving is immediate from the first invoice,” he said.

Yellow Door Energy’s first project with cloud kitchen

Provenzani said as a UAE-founded solar developer, Yellow Door Energy is honored to support Kitopi and the UAE to become more sustainable in renewable energy.

“With partnering with our company, businesses can decarbonise their operations and reduce their energy costs without any upfront investment,” he added.

Provenzani said the partnership with Kitopi is Yellow Door Energy’s first project with a state-of-the-art cloud kitchen, but not its first in the food industry.

The company’s existing customer-base includes Nestlé, Mondelēz, United Foods, BPC / Le Chocolat, Indoguna and more.

“Food manufacturers are ideal candidates for solar leasing as they consume a lot of electricity, want to reduce costs whilst lowering their carbon footprint.

“Their facilities typically also have ample space for solar as solar panels can be installed on the roof or as part of the parking lot,” Provenzani said.

Kitopi, a unicorn and a globally leading, tech-powered, multi-brand restaurant, currently operates more than 100 brands across over 200 outlets in the delivery and dine-in F&B space.

Yellow Door Energy is the leading sustainable energy partner for businesses in the Middle East, Africa and beyond, with over 200 megawatts of solar projects in the region.
