Geek of the week

Nokia has entered the music download fray with its Music Recommenders content service and it appears the phone giant has an ace up its sleeve — David Bowie. In the role of ‘Godfather’, Bowie will be fronting a service backed by 40 independent rec ord stores from around the world, reports tech website I4U.com. Users signing up to the free service will receive a text or e-mail each month containing personalised recommendations and clips.

The beta version of the service is due to go live next month and Bowie will be providing picks and podcasts.

“Waking up to a new sound or new band is something that makes my day just that bit more exciting,” said Bowie.

For bravely seeking out new music — and not being afraid to make mistakes, the venerable singer is our deserved GOTW.

Whether users will feel the same about his recommendations remains to be seen.
