Goodfella's: More than a haircut

Goodfella's: More than a haircut
Goodfellas - A traditional Brooklyn-New York style ambiance in Dubai Marina

If you want a men’s haircut in Dubai, there are at least over 1,000 different options.

If you fancy a hair “experience” – which also includes cool movies, cool food and cool coffee, there is only one option: the new Goodfella’s in Dubai Marina.

Ok, so first and foremost it’s a hairdresser. And a pretty good one at that. Founded by Theo Makris, Julian Straube and Solomon Hashimzai, the trio wanted to do “something different.”

“The name was inspired by a few different sources; we wanted to create a traditional Brooklyn-New York style ambiance. In essence we are ‘The Goodfella's’. A name and identity which is completely relatable by our target demographic. You know that you’re going to get an authentic experience,” says Makris.

The most striking aspect of Goodfella’s is that it doesn’t look or feel anything like a hairdresser. Multiple TV screens, leather sofas, brick walls and ultra-fancy coffee and snacks give it more of a lounge bar feel. Getting your haircut can seem like an unwanted distraction from the movies and coffees.

But it’s clearly done the trick. The new joint is pretty packed most Friday and Saturdays, with customers now booking direct through the website at least a week in advance. Many spend over an hour there – so much so, the founders are looking at expanding into three more Dubai outlets, before spreading out across the UAE.

“If you just want a haircut, I guess you can go many places. I like to think this is also a place to chill out, and yes, while here, get your haircut,” says Markris.
