Priced at $246, the new model also offers replaceable back covers
Following Google's acquisition of Motorola Mobility in 2011, the US handset company seemed to drop off consumers' radar.
With the exception of the Moto X, which was sold exclusively in Canada, the firm seemed to be quietly working away on designing something to grab the attention of Android users worldwide.
This has resulted in the launch of the Moto G, with expectations high the Google subsidiary.
The new model has several standout features that outshine its competitors and an affordable price of $247 to $274 in the GCC, and $179 on Motorola’s online store.
Dennis Woodside, CEO, Motorola Mobility, said: “The experience that smarphones in this class provide is really really bad. Our industry really forces consumers to make a choice between two very bad options... We think the industry needs to bring in more value for the consumers' dollar. We think people deserve better. Over the next year, half a million consumers will buy a phone for around $200. That’s a huge market and we believe half a million people deserve better. So that’s why today we’re introducing Moto G."
The smartphone runs on Android 4.3 Jellybean, the most up-to-date Android of any phone in its class, with a guaranteed upgrade to Android 4.4 KitKat.
The Quad-Core processor helps make multitasking faster, while fashion-conscious users can pick from six replaceable back covers to suit their particular style.
Motorola also claims that its 4.5-inch HD scratch resistant screen is the sharpest display of its size.
As a bonus, the phone also offers 50 GB of additional free storage space on Google Drive, an FM Radio functionality, and a dual SIM option on international units.
