Top Gear TV series to be available for download on Sony's PlayStation 3 gaming console.
The developers behind the Gran Turismo franchise have announced a tie-up with BBC Worldwide that will enable users to access the Top Gear TV series on Sony's PlayStation 3 gaming console.
Sony Computer Entertainment and Polyphony Digital said users will be able to download the BBC series through Gran Turismo TV, a new channel set to launch on the PlayStation Network in 2008.
BBC Worldwide will provide 40 episodes of its Top Gear motoring show for users to download and view. The dedicated online TV channel will also feature news and other motoring content.
In addition, the game known as Grand Turismo 5 Prologue (GT5), will feature the Top Gear test circuit as one of its tracks. The track is used on the show by hosts Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, James May and ‘The Stig' to test the latest cars.
"We at Polyphony are great fans of the world's best motoring programme, Top Gear, so we're delighted to be collaborating with BBC Worldwide to deliver Top Gear content via Gran Turismo," said Kazunori Yamauchi, the president of Polyphony Digital.
"We're sure that players will be as thrilled as we are when they get the chance to put their own driving skills to the test on the Top Gear test track in GT5, as well as enjoying classic episodes of Top Gear via GT TV," he added.
GT5 is scheduled for release on December 13 of this year. It is set to feature 50 cars, five tracks and will support Full HD (1080p) display resolutions and 16-player online racing. The game is also expected to have 7.1-channel HD sound effects.
