Greek construction firm wins Gulf deals worth $184m
Athens-based GEK TERNA has won construction contracts in Qatar and Bahrain

A unit of Athens-based GEK TERNA said on Friday it has won new projects in Qatar and Bahrain worth a total of 138m euros ($184m).

TERNA SA, a subsidiary of the Greek conglomerate, said in a statement that it has added two projects to its portfolio for work being executed in the Gulf states.

It said it was building a multi-storey car park in Doha for Qatar Foundation in a deal worth 114m euros.

The two-level underground car park with a total area of 100,000 sq m, would have a Metro station built of top of it, the company said.

The project is slated for completion in September 2013, it added.

The second Gulf project is a 24m euro 10-storey car park with the capacity for 1,400 vehicles.

The project also includes the design of dining areas on the top floor, TERNA SA said.

The owner of the project, which will be completed in October 2013, is Bahrain Financial Harbour Holding Company.

TERNA SA said the projects were part of a growing backlog of contracts won in the Middle East region, which now totalled 330m euros.

The overall backlog of parent company GEK TERNA Group’s projects amounts to 2bn euro, the statement added.
