US department store plan is part of partnership between Dubai's Al Tayer Group and Macy's
Dubai’s Al Tayer Group will open a Bloomingdale’s department store in Kuwait in Spring 2017, marking its third project in the region as part of its partnership with Macy's.
The store will be the second location outside the US for the popular American brand, following the opening of Bloomingdale’s The Dubai Mall in 2010 and in advance of the opening at Bloomingdale’s Al Maryah Central in Abu Dhabi in 2018.
The three-level clothing, beauty and accessories store, spanning over 93,000 square feet, will anchor Kuwait’s 360 MALL, which opened in 2009.
“Kuwait is one of the world’s most sophisticated and upscale fashion markets, and Bloomingdale’s is excited to serve new and existing customers from Kuwait,” said Tony Spring, Bloomingdale’s chairman and chief executive officer.
“This project also represents our latest step forward in an outstanding relationship with Al Tayer Group, which shares our dedication to quality and service. Together, we have made the Bloomingdale’s Dubai location one of our most productive stores. We have similar high expectations for Kuwait,” he added.
Khalid Al Tayer, CEO - Retail, Al Tayer Group, added: “Having launched the first international Bloomingdale’s store in Dubai almost six years ago, we are delighted to further extend our successful partnership with Macy’s Inc., with the launch of this new location in Kuwait.”
Al Tayer Group announced in 2014 Abu Dhabi’s Al Maryah Central will also be the location for the first Macy’s department store outside the US and will open, along with the UAE’s second Bloomingdale’s store, in 2018.
