HA-AD widens health cover

Small companies in Abu Dhabi must take out individual health insurance for each employee, rather than group health cover, under new rules set by Health Authority-Abu Dhabi (HA-AD).

Small companies in Abu Dhabi must take out individual health insurance for each employee, rather than group health cover, under new rules set by Health Authority-Abu Dhabi (HA-AD).

The new policy applies to small organisations with less than 11 employees.

Employers must cover insurance for employees as well as their families - spouse and three children below the age of 18.

The authority added that health policies must be obtained from health insurance firms which are authorised by HA-AD to issue individual policies.

"Employees earning less than AED3,000 per month with housing or AED4,000 without housing must be covered by basic product policies, while employees earning AED4,000 must be covered by enhanced product policies," said Dr Finn Goldner, head of health system financing at HA-AD.
