Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) has launched the Hitachi Universal Storage Platform (USP) V, an intelligent services platform with the ability to perform 3.5 million IOPS (input output operations per second) at maximum levels.
Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) has launched the Hitachi Universal Storage Platform (USP) V, an intelligent services platform with the ability to perform 3.5 million IOPS (input output operations per second) at maximum levels. According to the firm, the system increases virtualised storage port performance for external storage by up to 500% over its predecessor.
The company also claims that the Hitachi USP V facilitates synergistic linkages across a broad spectrum of enterprise, midrange and low-end storage systems, delivering unified, advanced storage services that span multi-dimensional virtualisation, provisioning, partitioning, and replication capabilities-in effect enhancing the value of clients' existing storage environments.
The product is based on Hitachi's Universal Star Network V architecture which features a crossbar switch ASIC design as well as separate, dedicated internal networks for data and control (meta-data), which enables the platform to deliver advanced storage services effectively such as storage-agnostic universal replication, large-scale virtualisation and logical partitioning.
According to HDS, the architecture elevates the performance of externally attached storage devices by 500%.
HDS believes that key functions such as replication and copy services and applications that require high levels of performance (e.g. certain database and backup applications) will benefit from higher, more consistent and easier-to-manage performance profiles.
