Mediclinic Airport Road Hospital to increase bed numbers to 250, to launch cancer centre by early 2020
Mediclinic Airport Road Hospital, the 134-bed Abu Dhabi-based facility that is part of Mediclinic Middle East, is currently undergoing an expansion to 250 beds.
The company said the project is due to be completed during the first quarter of 2020 and is aimed at enhancing the provision of healthcare services, and contributing to the development of the healthcare sector in Abu Dhabi.
David Hadley, CEO at Mediclinic Middle East, said: “The expansion project will be home to a number of centres of excellence in major areas of healthcare, in addition to a comprehensive cancer centre which will position Mediclinic Airport Road Hospital as a leading private tertiary referral centre in Abu Dhabi.
"Overall, the work we are carrying out will increase the size of the main hospital by almost two and a half times the current floor space.”
The cancer centre at Mediclinic Airport Road Hospital will be built in collaboration with Mediclinic Middle East’s affiliated division in Switzerland, Hirslanden, and will offer radiotherapy, nuclear medicine and chemotherapy services.
Joe Hazel, hospital director at Mediclinic Airport Road Hospital, said: “We continue to upgrade our existing facilities throughout the 134-bed hospital. These projects include the upgrade of the dialysis unit, physiotherapy and rehabilitation Unit, the medical, paediatrics, maternity and surgical wards, the lobby, the other public areas across the hospital and the new bbreast imaging Unit.”
Mediclinic Middle East operates seven hospitals and 20 clinics with over 900 inpatient beds in the UAE. Mediclinic Middle East cares for around 72,000 inpatients and around 3 million outpatients per year supported by over 6,000 employees.
