UAE Ministry of Health recalls medicine after label mistake found

The UAE’s Ministry of Health and Prevention has issued a circular withdrawing a batch of a pharmaceutical product after finding a mistake on a label, officials announced on Sunday.

In a statement, the ministry said that batch No. 0093 of the 10 mg Laxocodyl suppositories – which are used for the treatment of constipation – were incorrectly marked as being for children rather than adults, which could result in them having a double dose and suffering side effects.

The medicine is manufactured by JulpharGulf Pharmaceutical Industries Manufacturers.

According to the circular, the drug will be withdrawn from the UAE market and local healthcare officials have been advised not to use or dispense the medicine.

Members of the public that have already obtained medicine from the batch are being told to dispose of it and seek alternatives from doctors or pharmacists.

The ministry statement urged that suppliers, healthcare practitioners, pharmacists and members of the community report any side effects from the use of pharmaceutical products by e-mailing the ministry or using its online system or smartphone app.

Earlier this year, the ministry issued a circular to withdraw Zordyl Mouthwash, which is manufactured by the same company, due to potentially harmful impurities.
