Kuwait Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has left a US hospital after having successful check-ups, according to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).

KUNA quoted Sheikh Ali Jarrah Al-Sabah, Minister of the Emir Diwan Affairs, as saying that the check-ups showed reassuring results, without giving further details.

Earlier this week, the ruler of Kuwait was admitted to the hospital.

As a result a meeting with US President Donald Trump set for Thursday was postponed.

A new date for the meeting was expected to be announced later, he added.

On August 18, KUNA reported that the 90-year-old emir had "recovered from a setback and is in good health now".

It also cited a palace statement without specifying the nature of the "setback".
