Emirates Link Maltauro has been awarded the main construction contract for the Barraquer-UAE Eye Hospital
Abu Dhabi-based Emirates Link Maltauro (ELM) has been awarded the main construction contract for the Barraquer-UAE Eye Hospital by Grandis Investment Company, the investment firm behind the project.
The new hospital in phase two of Dubai Healthcare City represents the Middle East debut for Barcelona-based Barraquer Ophthalmology Centre, one of the leading eye clinics worldwide conducting 150,000 consultations, with 16,000 surgical procedures including laser treatments in 2018.
Barraquer said in a statement that it is known as a centre of reference in corneal transplants, ocular surface, cataract, refractive surgery and retina diseases. It also houses the first eye bank founded in continental Europe in 1962.
Professor Rafael I Barraquer, medical director of Barraquer's Barcelona, and Dr. Elena Barraquer said: “Our centre opening in the UAE is a testament to our commitment to providing eye care of the highest quality to patients around the world. The UAE is committed to developing and delivering excellence in healthcare and is actively expanding its local healthcare services.”
Dr Saeed Al Dayeh, director of Health Projects at Scope Investment, added: “Providing world-class healthcare service is one of the six pillars of the National Agenda in line with Vision 2021. Our long-term strategy is to invest in high-quality projects that can contribute to achieving this vision.
"The Barraquer Eye Hospital is among the leading eye clinics worldwide and we are pleased to see that they are looking to establish their advanced ophthalmology capabilities to the UAE to meet eye-care needs in the country and wider region.”
