The Ministry of Health and Community Protection has confirmed the first coronavirus cases in the UAE.

The ministry said members of a family arriving from the Chinese city of Wuhan had been diagnosed with the virus, it said on Wednesday, according to a report by the UAE’s state news agency WAM.

The ministry’s statement added that "the health condition of those infected is stable and under medical observation".

It added that UAE health authorities have taken "all the necessary precautions in accordance with the scientific recommendations, conditions and standards approved by the World Health Organisation" and it “is not a cause for concern".

Chinese health authorities announced on Tuesday 4,515 confirmed cases of the coronavirus virus and a total of 106 people had died of the disease, the UAE state news agency WAM reported.
