Claims on social media suggested an elderly woman had succumbed to the virus
Kuwait’s Health Ministry has moved quickly to deny social media reports that an elderly woman had become the country’s first coronavirus death.
An additional case on Sunday has taken the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Kuwait to date to 62 – one person has fully recovered.
However, in a statement to the national news agency (KUNA), the ministry denied that anyone has died as a result of the virus.
It also called on people to pay attention only to official sources and warned that reporting of any inaccurate information is illegal.
So far in the Middle East there have been 149 deaths from coronavirus, the majority of which in Iran, where there have been 5,823 cases reported, while four deaths have also been confirmed in Iraq.
Meanwhile Kuwait’s Ministry of Health has announced that people arriving from India, Bangladesh, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Syria, Lebanon and Egypt, must be placed in home quarantine for two weeks, from the date of departure.
