Coronavirus: 75% of Dubai disinfected in ongoing sterilisation programme

Civil Defence has steralised labour camps through 490 field visits.

Nearly 75% of Dubai’s districts have been disinfected as of today April 19, according to Civil Defence.

Authorities on Friday announced that the round-the-clock sterilisation programme, which came into effect on April 4, would be extended for an additional week as the city intensifies restrictions on movement in a bid to curb the spread of the virus.

The authority has steralised labour camps through 490 field visits. Additionally, it spread awareness among workers by teaching them hygiene skills to protect themselves from Covid-19.

The campaign has benefitted 161,977 workers.

Civil Defence has also reported a 79% drop in fires across Dubai during the national sterlisation programme compared to February 2020.

It has conducted 813 inspection operations for buildings in Dubai since the outbreak.

Additionally, it has increased the awareness of precautionary measures among firefighters and employees by placing thermal screening cameras at stations to check for symptoms of Covid-19, as well as provided masks and gloves.
