Covid-19: UAE announces 8 deaths, 525 new coronavirus cases

The number of new cases brings the total cases in the UAE to 9.281, with more people tested each day.

The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Friday announced 525 new cases of Covid-19 in the country, following another increase in testing.

In its latest update this evening, the ministry said eight people passed away as a result of the coronavirus, all as a result of underlying chronic conditions. It brings the total number of people to have passed away in the UAE as a result of Covid-19 to 64.

The number of new cases brings the total cases in the UAE to 9.281, with more people tested each day. The ministry revealed that 32,000 new tests were carried out in the last 24 hours, with more facilities opened across the country.

The update also included news that 123 people have recovered from Covid-19, bringing the total number to 1,760.

The new cases come on the day Dubai announced a partial reduction in the restrictions on movement in the emirate. The move allowed people to move freely in the emirate for the first time since April 4, and saw the reopening of malls, cafes and restaurants under certain conditions.

The stringent curbs on public movement will now be limited to between 10pm and 6am. During the restricted period, the public will only be allowed to leave their homes only medical emergencies.
