Covid-19 cases in Saudi Arabia pass 20,000 mark

Eight deaths in the kingdom bring the total death toll to 152

Covid-19 cases in Saudi Arabia pass 20,000 mark

The recent spike in cases is as a result of a significant increase in testing, which started two weeks ago by targeting suspected infection cluster areas.

Saudi Arabia reported 1,266 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, which brings the total number in the past the 20,000 mark.

The kingdom’s health authorities also reported eight new deaths, bringing the total to 152.

In a breakdown of the new cases, ministry spokesman Dr. Muhammad Al-Abdel Ali said 77% of the new cases were expats.

He said 2,936 have recovered from the coronavirus in the kingdom. Of the 17,141 active cases, 118 cases are deemed critical.

The recent spike in cases is as a result of a significant increase in testing, which started two weeks ago by targeting suspected infection cluster areas. To date, the kingdom has carried out over 1 million tests.
