The country's total now stands at 5,804
Kuwait reported a surge of 526 new cases of coronavirus on Tuesday, taking the total number of infections in the country to 5,804.
At a daily media briefing, Health Ministry spokesperson Dr. Abdullah Al-Sanad said that 90 patients were in intensive care, 31 of whom are in a critical condition.
He added that there are currently 3,732 patients receiving hospital treatment.
Earlier on Tuesday, Health Minister Dr. Basel Al-Sabah announced the recovery of 85 patients as the total is brought to 2,032 recoveries.
Meanwhile, it has been announced that Kuwait is to participate in the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) ‘Solidarity’ initiative, which aims to compare four treatment options with the usual level of care to treat the coronavirus disease to assess its safety and effectiveness.
The experimental treatments that will be studied according to the recommendations of WHO are Remdesivir, Lopinavir - Ritonavir and Lopinavir - Ritonavir in conjunction with interferon beta-1a and chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine.
The initiative is an international clinical trial in which more than 90 countries are participating and aims to cooperate in reaching a safe and effective treatment for coronavirus.
