Coronavirus: UAE confirms 502 new cases, eight more deaths

The new cases come as the UAE Health Ministry revealed is has conducted more than 33,000 Covid-19 tests throughout the country.

The UAE has confirmed a further 502 new cases of coronavirus and reported another eight Covid-19-related deaths.

It takes the total number of infections across the country up to 16,240, while the death toll has risen to 165.

The eight fatalities involved individuals from different nations, whose death was “a result of complications associated with other diseases”.

The ministry also announced that 213 more people have fully recovered following treatment, taking the total number of recoveries in the country to 3,572.

On Wednesday, Dr. Amna Al Dahak Al Shamsi, official spokesperson of the UAE Government, warned citizens and residents to adhere to the strict social distancing guidelines after it was revealed that 30 people from two families who had held a family gathering – including a baby under the age of two months and several elderly people – had become infected with the deadly virus.
