More than 70 Covid-19 patients have been treated using a stem cell therapy that helps alleviate symptoms of the virus
Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed has ordered payment of all costs related to the treatment of critical Covid-19 cases through stem cell therapy, it was announced on Saturday.
The initiative follows a separate announcement that the Abu Dhabi Stem Cell Centre (ADSCC) developed a Covid-19 treatment using stem cells.
Already, the treatment has been administered to 73 Covid-19 patients, who were all treated and cured of the virus by inhaling the treatment into their lungs after being nebulised into a fine mist.
According to the ADSCC, the new therapy is a “supportive treatment” that helps patients overcome the symptoms of the virus, rather than eliminate the virus itself.
The process involves taking a blood sample from the patient, with the therapy used to activate cells so that they can get inhaled back into the lungs.
The ADSCC says the treatment’s therapeutic effect stems from regenerating lung cells and modulating the immune system’s response to Covid-19.
The treatment is being used alongside conventional medical interventions.
