Coronavirus: UAE reports 731 new cases, total rises to over 23,000

A total of 581 patients recovered over the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries in the UAE up to 8,512.

UAE officials reported 731 new cases of coronavirus on Sunday, taking the country’s total number of Covid-19 virus cases up to 23,358.

Health officials said the additional cases were discovered as a result of a continued increase in testing for the deadly virus, with a further 40,000 new tests carried out across the country.

"The intensification of examination procedures at the state level helped in the detection of 731 new cases of coronavirus emerging from different nationalities, all of which are stable," a statement from state news agency (WAM) said.

According to the figures, a further six patients have died from coronavirus over the last 24 hours, with the death toll now standing at 220.

The statement added that 581 patients recovered over that time period, taking the total number of recoveries in the country up to 8,512.

Recent recoveries have included a four-month-old baby, who was treated in Al Zahra Hospital in Dubai.
