The Star and Garter, one of London's most historic buildings overlooking the Thames river, has been unveiled by developers in Dubai this week, with prices for apartments starting at around $2 million.
The Grade II listed building, which has been immortalised by famous artists and writers and its view from Richmond Hill are so world-famous it is protected by an Act of Parliament, has been converted by developer London Sqaure into 86 luxury apartments and duplexes.
Half the units have already been sold but the developer this week unveiled the project to potential buyers in Dubai.
Prices start from £1.3 million ($1.97 million) for a one-bed apartment, with two bedroom, two bathroom apartments from £1.75 million and three bedroom apartments from £2.45 million.
The project is already 50 per cent sold, agents said.
Victoria Garret, Associate partner at Knight Frank and agent for the development in the Middle East, commented: “Over the years, West London’s stable real estate market has become known as a safe haven for Middle East investors, and the area remains the principal target for regional capital.
“The Star and Garter has it all – a prime development in a fashionable setting. Richmond is one of London’s most coveted areas, a favourite with celebrities, affluent entrepreneurs and professionals. This is an exceptional opportunity to buy into an iconic landmark building with outstanding cachet and excellent investment potential. Through our meetings with clients we are already seeing a keen interest from Bahrain.’’
Rebecca Littler, sales and marketing director, London Square, said: “The Star and Garter is London’s most exciting residential address. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to buy part of a celebrated London landmark, a residence rich in history that offers a five-star lifestyle with the highest level of specification and bespoke detail.”
Facilities at the Star and Garter include a boutique hotel or private club and spectacular gardens overlooking the river Thames and Petersham Meadows. The meticulously restored King’s Room, with its original parquet flooring, ornate mouldings, coffered ceilings and fireplaces, is the setting for an opulent spa, pool and fitness suite. A concierge service will be provided to attend to residents’ needs.
