A huge fire raging in an apartment block in the capital was brought under control by Abu Dhabi’s emergency services by around 3.30pm, according to a report.

The fire broke out at about 1.10pm in a 12-storey apartment block on the 9th Street, between Airport Road and Muroor Road in the UAE capital, The National daily reported on Friday.

According to the daily, people gathered outside the burning building as fire and ambulance crews from the Emergency and Civil Defence departments rushed to the spot, but the definite cause of the fire was not immediately known.

There was no immediate information about the casualties, The National added.
