Hyundai wins big power job

Hyundai bags Jebel Ali power project

Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co. has won a US $696 million (AED2.6 billion) order to build the 1200 megawatt Jebel Ali power plant.

Hyundai CEO, Lee Ji-song personally visited Dubai to help negotiate the deal.

He said: “Middle Eastern oil producers making sufficient money due to higher oil prices are likely to issue $30 billion in construction orders each year.

“Hyundai will make sure we stay on top as a leading builder of power plants.”

The construction of the gas turbine combined-cycle power plant is expected to take 35 months.

The combined-cycle technology involves burning gas, firstly to turn a gas turbine to produce power and then driving a steam turbine with high-pressure exhausts from the primary gas turbine, to generate electricity.
