The biannual International Defence Exhibition (IDEX), opens at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre on 18

February, and runs for four days.

The event will be so large this year that Abu Dhabi's hotel industry is unable to accommodate all the exhibitors and visitors. As a temporary measure, the city has arranged for two cruise ships to be moored at the city that will provide luxury overflow rooms for the duration of the show.

The two liners will be based at Mina Zayed Free Port facility, only steps away from the IDEX 2007 Naval Berthing exhibition of visiting warships.

Forty American firms including Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, Armor Holdings, General Dynamics, Cubic Defence, KBR will participate at IDEX as part of the official USA pavilion.

Products on display will include helicopters, armoured vehicles, command and control centres and advanced support systems for soldiers.
