IE firm favourite with Middle East PC users

Despite the rising popularity of ‘alternative’ programs such as Mozilla’s Firefox and Opera, Microsoft’s Internet Explorer is still the web browser of choice for most PC users in the Middle East.

Despite the rising popularity of ‘alternative’ programs such as Mozilla’s Firefox and Opera, Microsoft’s Internet Explorer is still the web browser of choice for most PC users in the Middle East.

According to the results of an itp.net mini poll, which ran for two months at the end of 2006 and recorded the views of 2565 site visitors, 61% of Middle East internet users use Microsoft’s browser app (which comes free with the Windows operating system).

Taking a strong second place with 30% of the vote was Mozilla’s impressive Firefox release, followed by Opera on 5% and Netscape’s once-popular browser on just 1%. Other lesser-known browsers accounted for 2% of votes.
