IHG and Aldar Properties join hands

InterContinental Hotels Group has signed a deal for three branded properties in Abu Dhabi, which will be developed by Aldar Properties.

InterContinental Hotels Group has signed a deal for three branded properties in Abu Dhabi, which will be developed by Aldar Properties.

Under the agreement, the hotel company will operate a 430-room Crowne Plaza property and 165-suite Staybridge Suites hotel located in Aldar's Yas Island development, with both scheduled to open in 2009.

An 300-room InterContinental Hotel branded property is also slated to open in 2011, in the Al Dana precinct of Aldar's Al Raha Beach development.

The waterfront hotel has also been earmarked for a "stunning" conference facility.

IHG chief executive Andrew Cosslett said the company was pleased to work with Aldar on these properties "and others going forward".

"Aldar Properties are a substantial developer and investor with impressive plans for hospitality development in Abu Dhabi," he said.

"Their developments are in prime locations with an exciting range of facilities, and this strategic partnership will allow IHG to build on our existing presence in Abu Dhabi as well as adding new IHG branded hotels to our portfolio."

Aldar Hotels and Hospitality managing director Paul Bell said IHG's "scale and brands fit very well with Aldar Hotels and Hospitality's strategic aim of partnering leading brands and operators with our exceptional locations, and we look forward to extending the relationship in the near future".
