L&T plans to increase MidEast staff by 50% in push for regional contracts
Abu Dhabi Gas Industries (GASCO) has awarded a lump sum
turnkey contract worth $189m to India's Larsen & Toubro for the
engineering, procurement and construction work on a new gas pipeline, GASCO
said in a statement.
The Habshan-Ruwais-Shuweihat gas pipeline will supply
natural gas to Abu Dhabi Oil Refining Company's (Takreer) refinery expansion at
Ruwais and to Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority in Shuweihat.
The completion dates for the pipeline project, implemented
by GASCO on behalf of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, is 24 and 26 months for
Ruwais and Shuweihat pipelines respectively.
Takreer is planning to more than double the capacity of its
Ruwais refinery to 900,000 barrels per day by end-2013.
The contract was awarded to the Indian engineering
conglomerate on July 26, the statement said.
It’s the second UAE win for the Indian conglomerate, which
earlier this month needed a $450m deal with an unnamed oil and gas firm in the
L&T said in June it planned to increase its staff in the
Middle East by 50 percent to 1,500 in a year as it geared up to bid for
contracts in Qatar, ahead of the 2022 World Cup.
The firm, which is India’s biggest builder of power networks
and airports, expects to double overseas orders in three years as it moves to
diversify its order book.
