Industrial & POS printers are show's stars

Star Micron is using Gitex to promote it range of industrial and point of sale (POS) printers. The company is also unveiling two new additions to its lines at this week's event.

Star’s first release is the TUP900, a high-speed, wide-format modular kiosk printing solution designed for installation in information and multimedia terminals. The model is pitched at OEMs looking to include printing capabilities in the product offerings.

The company believes the TUP900’s flexible design, created using modular components, will appeal to OEMs, along with its printing speed. The unit can rattle off over half a metre of printing, on 4”/112mm wide paper, in three seconds.

The vendor is also showcasing the AutoLogo feature of its TSP700 POS printer, which allows retailers to customise receipts at the touch of a button.

AutoLogo allows a range of pre-programmed images, such as a company logo or coupon, to be printed on receipts. These can be automatically triggered by a specific purchase, enabling retailers to run targeted promotions. For instance, the system could be programmed to print a voucher for free films, when a consumer buys a camera.

To ease management of the system, the printer features online connectivity, which allows national campaigns to be run from one central location.

“Considerable versatility and the ability to implement promotions instantly without the help of the IT department or substantial marketing and POS funds will attract retailers,” says Annette Tarlton, marketing manager, EMEA, Star Micron.
