A computer error caused all the cash machines across the UAE to shut down for almost an hour on Saturday, the Central Bank confirmed.
The glitch in the computerised network that processes automated teller machine (ATM) transactions caused all machines to stop working at 11am.
Shoppers were left confused and inconvenienced by the error, reports the National on Sunday.
The Central Bank said the problem was due to an error in the UAESwitch system, which banks use to share information on ATMs.
This was fixed in 45 minutes and by 1pm all services had returned to normal, the bank told the paper.
Last weekend, HSBC customers were unable to withdraw cash or use online banking services after the bank’s computer system shutdown for about eight hours.
A spokesman for the bank told the National the two events were not connected.
