The Federal Tax Authority (FTA) is urging all resident companies in the UAE with licenses issued in March or April to register for corporate tax by June 30, 2024 or face fines of AED10,000.

This reminder applies regardless of what year the license was originally issued.

In a statement on Sunday, the FTA reminded juridical persons subject to the new corporate tax that they must submit registration applications in line with FTA Decision No. 3 of 2024 on corporate tax registration timelines.

Companies holding licenses issued in March or April have until the end of this month to complete registration without incurring late penalties.

The FTA’s decision sets out clear timelines by month for when different categories of taxable persons must apply to register for the corporate tax, which took effect in June last year. Both resident and non-resident individuals and companies must follow the specified registration periods or risk an AED10,000 fine.

For resident companies incorporated prior to March 1, 2024, the registration deadline hinges on the month their trade license was originally issued, even if it has since expired. Those with multiple licenses use the earliest issuance date. Newly incorporated companies have three months from establishment to register.

To ease compliance, the FTA has released a public clarification with examples covering various registration scenarios. Corporate tax registration opened in March through the EmaraTax online platform, taking around 30 minutes. Authorised tax agents and government service centers also provide registration assistance.

The authority stressed the importance of closely reviewing the corporate tax law, clarifications, guidelines and decisions available at tax.gov.ae.
