Only 2.5 percent of companies have been found violating the summer midday work ban in Dubai, labour chiefs have announced.

The Permanent Committee for Labour Affairs in Dubai said it has inspected 2,399 facilities and found only 61 to be in violation.

The mandatory break for workers, which runs until September 15, is aimed at keeping labourers out of the sun during rhe hottest hours between 12.30-3pm.

The Ministry of Labour extended this year’s midday ban from two to three months.

Brigadier Mohamed Al-Marri, chairman of the committee told news agency WAM that 15 inspectors visited the workplaces and sites to ensure compliance of employers with the mandatory break for workers.

A total of 2,338 sites were found to be obeying the rules and 61 were not.

He added that 121 such violations took place in July and August last year.

Earlier this month, a UAE official said about 99 percent of firms had complied with the ban during the first few days of it being enforced.
