If you can’t stand the heat…

’Baby it’s hot outside’ as the words of the old song go, and indeed it seems that a lot of the moovers and shakers in the world of machinery have taken the month off.

You could be forgiven for thinking then that it would be a quiet time in the construction industry generally, but not a bit of it. Projects are roaring ahead, despite the heat and working time restrictions. Meanwhile, major contracts are being awarded left right and centre – with those for the Arabian Canal of particular note.

There is no sign of a slowdown in equipment sales around the UAE, either. This is despite the price of diesel rising higer than the noonday sun. At the time of writing, the price of the heavy oil is more than double what it is in neighbouring Sharjah – leading to the inevitable ques and chaos at the latter’s pumps.

Despite the warmth, nothing seems to be overheating. Hopefully this will be a metaphor for the local construction boom for a long time to come.
