The Norman Clubhouse will not be ready in time for the Dubai World Championship, the richest golf tournament in the world, Arabian Business can reveal.
Jumeirah Golf Estates developer Leisurecorp, which is building the Earth course, where the Dubai World Championship will be played in November, admitted on Tuesday that a temporary structure will be erected because of delays to the clubhouse, named after Australian golfer Greg Norman.Arabian Business reported in May that there were doubts over whether the clubhouse would be completed for the event.
“Progress continues on the Clubhouse, which was the preferred operational base for the tournament; however, due to the timelines involved a decision has been taken to construct a temporary structure that is fitting of the season-ending championship and will provide the necessary operational facilities,” a Leisurecorp spokesman said in statement.
The Dubai World Championship is the climax to The Race to Dubai golf competition, which is spread over 51 tournaments in 26 destinations, with players from 40 countries.
The top 60 tour players at the end of the season compete for a $10m pool of prize money at the Dubai World Championship.
After the tournament, an additional $10m for the top ranked 15 players is up for grabs.
