Purple design to be expected

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is expected to award the consultancy contract for the proposed Purple Line of the Dubai Metro within the next two months

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is expected to award the consultancy contract for the proposed Purple Line of the Dubai Metro within the next two months.

The new line will be built along Al Khail Road, which falls between Emirates Road and Sheikh Zayed Road.

It will operate as an express line linking Dubai International Airport and Jebel Ali Airport, and will be in addition to the planned Blue Line, which will run along Emirates Road and will also connect the airports.

A tender for the Blue Line consultancy is expected to be sent out by the end of March.

“We have just received tenders back for the Purple Line and they are now under assessment,” said an official from the RTA. “We expect to award the contract within the next month, or two at the latest. The Blue line has not yet gone to the market but we will tender for it sometime around the end of March.”
