Webb and Erbas contracted on Saadiyat Island

Australian firm looking at futuristic lighting technology.

Australian lighting design and MEP firm Webb and Erbas has been contracted to provide lighting for highways on Saadiyat Island, the mixed use tourist destination developed by Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC).

The company, which is known for its plasma lighting work in Australia, said that plasma lighting was one of the options it was exploring for the project, but added that the lighting plan had not yet been finalised.

“Plasma lighting is one of the options we’re looking at, but we haven’t confirmed whether that’s the way we’re going just yet,” Ian Foy, director, Webb and Erbas told Commercial Outdoor Design.

Webb and Erbas is an offshoot of Australian lighting professionals Webb Australia, which was responsible for the installation of plasma lighting at the Anzac Parade in Canberra, Australia, in 2001.

Plasma lighting is regarded as one of the future forms of lighting technology thanks to its energy efficiency, high lumen output and low light pollution.

Its usage to date has mainly been limited to Australia and the US.
