OPEC member Kuwait will gradually restart operations at its ageing 200,000 barrel per day Shuaiba refinery from Tuesday after it was shut down on December 26, a spokesman for the state refiner KNPC said.
“We will start the gradual operation this morning and full operation is expected within a maximum of 24 hours,” Mohammed al-Ajmi told Reuters.
A technical malfunction in a steam pipeline was responsible for the closure of the country’s smallest refinery on Saturday, KUNA said. There was no impact on exports.
KNPC runs the country’s three oil refineries, which have a combined capacity of around 930,000 bpd.
The world’s fourth-largest oil exporting nation has an overall production capacity of 3.15 million bpd, which it plans to increase to 4 million bpd by 2020. (Reuters)
