Saudi Aramco names new chief executive

New head of state-owned oil giant is 30-year company veteran, will take up appointment on Jan. 1.

Saudi Arabia, the world’s top crude exporter, has named Khalid Al-Falih as president and chief executive of state oil giant Saudi Aramco, a company statement said on Sunday.

Al-Falih, a nearly 30-year company veteran who is executive vice president of operations, was appointed by Oil Minister Ali Al-Naimi and will take up his new posts on Jan. 1, 2009.

Al-Falih will replace Abdallah Jumah, who has decided to retire after serving for 14 years as president and CEO of the oil company, the statement said.
