Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah arrived into Dhahran this week to kickstart celebrations for the 75-year anniversary of Aramco.
The state-owned oil company was founded on May 29, 1933, when American company Socal was first given rights to explore for oil in the Kingdom.
Festivities will continue for a year, with several events planned to mark the continuing success of Saudi Arabia’s most lucrative business.
In a speech to a crowd of invited dignitaries, King Abdullah congratulated Saudi Aramco on its contribution to the national development efforts of the country, and thanked it for its continuing role on the world stage as an ambassador for Saudi Arabia.
Ali I. Al-Naimi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, discussed the early days of the company, including the role of Saudi Arabia’s King Abdul Aziz, while Saudi Aramco CEO Abdallah Jum’ah thanked employees for their support.
His address was video-streamed live to facilities across the company’s facilities and offices in the Kingdom.
