CEO of Abu Dhabi private hospital to be prosecuted

Official and female doctor charged with causing cerebral palsy to newly-born infant.

The CEO of a major unnamed private hospital in Abu Dhabi and a female doctor are to stand trial for causing cerebral palsy to a newly-born baby, the Medical Licensing Committee at the Health Authority-Abu Dhabi (HAAD) said on Monday.WAM news agency reported that the Committee has charged the CEO of knowingly allowing an unlicensed doctor, who was also on a banned list, to deliver the baby at the hospital. A mistake by the doctor led to permanent and irreversible brain damage to the baby.

The Committee placed the official, who is also a specialised doctor, on the banned list.

The hospital was told by the Committee to correct any mistakes within three months. Failure to do so will mean it being shut down for 3 months.

Meanwhile, a pharmacy in Al-Ain city has been shut down for one month, while two more hospitals and three dental centres have been issued with a warning for hiring unlicensed x-ray technicians, nurses and dental assistants.

Expired medicines and solutions were also seized and destroyed, the Committee added.
