The Ministry of Health has agreed a pay rise with staff at Al Qassimi Hospital, Sharjah, that has boosted salaries by 70%, Medical Times has learnt.
The package, which affects both clinical and administrative employees, is the first move on pay made by the ministry. Last year saw record resignations at the hospital, as physicians opted for better-paid roles in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
Dr Alan Sandford, CEO and chief medical officer at Al Qassimi, said the “major pay jump” had been calculated on base salaries. “It has been gratefully received by staff, as there is more parity with Dubai ministry hospitals now.”
The move pre-empts a major recruitment drive for the hospital. The facility has secured funding for 500 new employees, including doctors, nurses, technicians and administrative staff.
The increased pay scale means candidates in other public and private sectors see Al Qassimi as a potential employer, Dr Sandford said.
“But it isn’t just about pay – it’s about embracing learning and opportunities. I need to make this hospital a preferred employer.”
