With the Boston University Institute for Dental Research and Education enrolling its first class of postgraduate dental students last month, the UAE’s dental scene took a significant move forwards.
As the UAE’s first dental postgraduate programme, it provides an opportunity to nurture and retain local dental talent.
Local postgraduate training opportunities have proven limiting and most students have moved abroad to further their studies, posing a real possibility that they may also opt to practice outside of their home countries on completion of their studies.
As a result, the Boston University Institute for Dental Research and Education’s commitment towards educating the next generation of dentists is a huge boon for both UAE students and the local dental community as a whole.
In parallel to its commitment to educate and train the next generation of dentists, the Boston University team is also committed to providing first-class dental patient care. As such, the Institute is complemented by the Boston University Dental Health Center. The facility opened its doors in March this year as part of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Academic Medical Center in Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC).
With global standards at the heart of its practice, the center has substantial facilities to cater to patients needs. 19 dental chairs are complemented by a VIP patient suite; cutting edge equipment and technology is in place as are two radiology rooms with digital X-ray capacity and 10 laboratory stations.
The dentists and hygienists are also of the highest calibre, with the center explaining that dental residents are selected on a merit basis and provided with opportunities to study a host of dental specialties. The center will also invite internationally regarded dental specialists to practice and drive education.
