The Abu Dhabi Department of Health (DoH), has referred a pharmacy to public prosecution after noting “operations of appropriation and damage to public funds,” a statement by Emirates News Agency (WAM) said.
The drug store is suspected to have tampered with insurance policies by substituting medically prescribed drugs with drugs other than the prescribed ones.
Pharmacy under investigation for suspicious transactions
The pharmacy reportedly did this in order to receive money from financial claims covered by insurance companies.
DoH referred the store to the public prosecution, following its investigation which saw “sceptical transactions” over insurance claims of the company.
However, after repeated follow-ups and inspections, the DoH disciplinary committee referred the pharmacy to the public prosecution to investigate such operations, WAM said.
All healthcare providers in Abu Dhabi must comply with DOH’s standards and regulations, in order to contribute to “preserving the efficiency of the healthcare system while maintaining the health and safety of all community members, in line with the best practices and international standards,” the statement said.
