Dubai Police arrest gang following $3.8m theft

Police issue advice on security measures following cash transit theft in Deira

Dubai Police have arrested a gang who stole $3.8 million (AED14m) from cash transit staff in Deira.Authorities said the gang of nine stole the money from the staff as they were refilling an ATM. They managed to escape in an unknown location, according to police.Police received a report in relation to a the gang, who were of Asian nationality and located them in a neighbouring emirate.  Upon arrest at an industrial unit, within 12 hours of the theft, police found evidence of plans to carry out the robbery, including maps.Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, who praised the efforts of the General Directorate of Investigation and Criminal Investigation, said officials from Dubai Police have held talks with government institutions and money transfer companies to advise them on installing special security measures, in accordance with best international practice.
