Jeddah has announced a SR229 million ($61m) project to revamp the city’s waterfront area.
The project, in Saudi Arabia’s second largest city, will stretch along 2.8km and see 180,000 square metres redeveloped as part of the Kingdom Vision 2030 and Cities Humanization Initiative, which is aimed at improving the quality of life for residents and increasing the amount of green spaces and parks.
Work will last for 30 months, according to a report on the state-run Saudi Press Agency (SPA), and will include re-paving roads, while squares, pedestrian pathways and cyclists’ corridors will be made, in addition to the creation of green spaces, tree planting, play grounds and fountains as well as sandy beaches for swimmers and investment sites.
Jeddah Municipality has a commitment to increasing green spaces in Jeddah through garden and reforestation projects throughout the province.
