Al Ain court jails three businessmen over issuing fake work permits

Asian businessmen are given prison sentences of between 1-3 years followed by deportation plus fines handed to firms

Three businessmen have been jailed by Al Ain’s Court of First Instance for issuing fake work permits and providing false data, according to news agency WAM.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation referred three private sector firms to the court and three bosses have been jailed for between one and three years.

Mubarak Al Dhahiri, Under-Secretary at the MoHRE, said: “Such serious offences shall not be tolerated, and directly referred to the court for immediate actions. According to Cabinet Decision No.40 of 2014, a AED20,000 fine shall be slapped on each fraud case followed by a complete halt to granting any work permits to such establishments.”

WAM said the court jailed one Asian businessman, known only as NK, for a year followed by deportation from the country. The firm was also given a AED50,000 fine.

A second Asian businessman, referred to as MA, was also jailed for a year followed by deportation while his firm was given a AED50,000 fine.

A third case saw another Asian businessman, named as WB, sent to prison for three years followed by deportation in addition to the firm being fined AED50,000.
