A woman who threatened to blow herself up in the Dubai Public Prosecution building using an explosive belt, in a row over proving fatherhood of her child, has been sentenced to seven years in jail, according to local media reports.

A judge has also ruled that the 33-year-old Uzbek woman, Z.H., be deported after serving her sentence.

The woman’s accomplice, a 28-year-old Emirati, M.Y., has been jailed for two years for aiding and abetting the woman by making the device.

Both can appeal against the convictions.

In September, a team of police negotiators were called in to convince the Uzbek woman to turn herself in after a 13-hour stand-off.

Police evacuated the building and were eventually able to safely remove the belt from the woman, which was found to not contain any explosives.

The woman, who was accompanied by her child, threatened action if she didn’t receive help to put an end to a personal dispute over proving fatherhood of her child, the Government of Dubai Media Office said in a statement at the time.

“Although the explosive belt she wore did not contain any explosives, the accused’s actions are punishable by law as they triggered public disorder, violated the security and safety of the community, frightened the public and endangered the lives of people,” Attorney General of Dubai, Essam Eisa Al Humaidan said in a statement last October.

“What she did places the case within the jurisdiction of the Supreme Federal Court, and that is why it was referred to the State Security Prosecution in Abu Dhabi.”

In November the WAM news agency said Al Humaidan “has decided to refer the two accused in the bomb belt case to the Dubai Criminal Court.”

The Uzbek woman and her accomplice “have been accused of threatening and scaring H.S.M., employees of the public prosecution and clients,” the report said.
