An earthquake measuring 5.4 on Richter scale was recoded in the Sea of Oman, officials have said.
The seismic tremor was recorded at around 4:45am by the Sultan Qaboos University’s earthquake monitoring centre, according to a report by the Times of Oman.
“Our centre recorded the earthquake. So far we have not received any report of damage due to the earthquake,” an official from the centre said. “The quake won’t trigger any tsunami,” the official added.
US Geological Survey statistics show that the epicentre of the quake was 362km southeast of Salalah, in the Sea of Oman and was 10km deep.
The latest quake follows similar events in April and May when earthquakes of magnitudes between 4 and 5 on the Richter scale were recorded in Oman.
