A fire has broken out in the Bur Dubai area, in a building housing Ravi Restaurant, one of Dubai’s most popular restaurants.
Flames engulfed the building in the Al Musalla area of the city on Tuesday afternoon at around 3:30pm and were captured by several Twitter uses in the area.
While the fire has now been extinguished, it is not immediately clear what caused the fire or if there were any casualties or injuries.
The outlet is one of the most popular restaurants in Dubai among residents and tourists.
“There’s something quite loveable about Baithal Ravi’s,” a 2011 TimeOut Dubai review said of the restaurant. “You’d be forgiven for walking past it and dismissing it as just another cheap curry house, but step inside this lively Pakistani cauldron and you’ll be treated to a delicious marriage of spices,” it added.
Fans took to social websites to voice their concern over the incident: “OMG NOOOOOOO RAVI SET ON FIRE,” one fan named Mahnoors tweeted.
The full name of the Bur Dubai restaurant is Baithal Ravi Restaurant and it serves Pakistani and Indian cuisine. It is not related to another legendary Dubai institution, Ravi’s Restaurant in Satwa, which has completely different owners.
Waheed Abdul Hameed, owner of the Ravi Restaurant in Satwa tweeted: “Thanx everyone for your concerns, but the fire
happened at Beit Al Ravi, Bur Dubai. No connection to the original Ravi
Restaurants.”
